I'm a freelance writer with a passion for human rights, nature, and culture.
I love getting stuck into a story. I want to understand the people behind the headlines, whether that means getting out in the field, sitting down with a coffee together, or diving headfirst into deep research. I'm a journalist, a copywriter and a creative writer, but above all I tell stories.
The picture above is of Joyce and her friend Margaret. I met them in Margaret's garden in Uganda, when I was researching a piece about people turning their refugee camp into a permaculture garden. Joyce and Margaret are both locals who've also benefited from the project.

Why are older women dedicating their retirement to fighting frackers? In this long-form feature for The Conversationalist, I tell the stories of three anti-fracking nanas and their networks, from activist knitting to lock-ons to generations-long Indigenous resistance.

After waking to the sound of explosions on February 24 2022, the morning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Anastasiya Volkova knew that she and her family had to leave Kyiv. This is the story of an eco village network in Ukraine and further afield in Europe, offering sanctuary to people who have been displaced by war, for Mother Jones.

As the annual rose harvest in Turkey draws to a close, I meet some of the Syrian refugees working as rose pickers, to hear their stories of life in Turkey, and what they left behind in Syria, for the Lush Times.

In harsh conditions in Kenya, Maasai women are supporting themselves by growing aloe, and rejecting negative traditions like FGM. I travel to Kenya for The Lush Times to meet some of the women (including Priscilla Senteina, the Maasai permaculturist in this photo), and find out how their lives have changed.

Across the world, Indigenous communities are dedicating themselves to protecting the land, ecosystems, and traditional cultures with thousands of years of history. In Canada, Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is supporting some of those communities, and raising Indigenous voices in a debate that is now critical. I spent a week in Canada meeting some of the communities ICA supports, for Lush Times and The Ecologist.

Refugees are forced from country to country by police in European Union nations. This is in contravention of international human rights law. I investigated for a New Internationalist feature, originally produced in print.
Michele Amoruso took photos for the piece, including this image of an Afghan asylum seeker in January 2021. |
This is Little Amal, the puppet refugee girl on a European odyssey. I followed her journey for The Conversationalist in a two-part series, and looked at how similar Amal's journey is to that of actual refugee children.
